Hydra-Stop Overview

Hydra-Stop, based in Burr Ridge, Illinois, is the largest insertion valve and line stop manufacturer in the world. For over 35 years, Hydra-Stop has provided solutions for water control to thousands of municipalities and contractors around the world. Hydra-Stop provides solutions for the 20 – 50 percent of valves in municipal systems that no longer operate. Specifically, we:

  • Manufacture equipment for installing insertion valves in under-pressure applications
  • Manufacture and provide technical support for insertion valves and line stop fittings
  • Teach interested parties about alternative water main repair methodology to eliminate shutdowns and customer interruptions.
  • Help municipalities manage, maintain and provide solutions for aging water systems
  • Provide municipalities and private water utilities the easiest and most cost-effective solutions to service their communities
  • Minimize the disruption of water, the most basic human need — water

Hydra-Stop provides safe and efficient solutions to conserve and control Earth’s most precious resource — water. Our purpose is to help municipalities and private water utilities manage, maintain and provide solutions for aging water systems. We do that by offering solutions with the easiest and most cost-effective method for municipalities and private water utilities to serve their communities while minimizing the disruption of the water supply. Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer will lead product development and improvement projects, support design for manufacturing initiatives, design and perform product testing matrices, manage interdepartmental troubleshooting and design teams, and show initiative in providing solutions for continuous improvement in the engineering department. This role will require the individual to perform these tasks with little oversight and report out on progress and challenges weekly.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce creative solutions in a fast-paced and cross-functional environment
  • Using CAD software, design and create drawings of detailed components and their associated assemblies
  • Establish new product development project scopes and timeline estimates
  • Report project status and deadline countermeasures to senior leadership
  • Perform product design reviews and present results
  • Conduct interviews with customers to collect product feedback
  • Manage prototype delivery from external vendors and multiple manufacturing departments
  • Provide technical and modeling support for the creation, publishing, and distribution of technical product manuals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organization skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and report progress and necessary corrective actions
  • Proficient with Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor, MS Office, and data management concepts
  • Waterworks experience, exposure to AWWA standards are a plus
  • Demands attention to detail in product designs and accurate test results
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the company, both written and verbal, and competency presenting testing results
  • Desire to work on projects demanding fast prototyping and production startups
  • Ability to do field product testing
  • Able to lift 25-50lbs overhead
  • 5+ years experience designing mechanical devices
  • 3+ years project or product management experience preferred
  • BSME or equivalent engineering degree required
